My Photographic Wish List-A Better LensWriten by Eric Hartwell
Im not unhappy or dissatisfied but
I want a better lens. No, not just a more expensive one with a large aperture and the manufacturers name emblazoned on it for show. I want a lens that I will fix to my camera and use all the time.
Im fed up with having to swap lenses for different jobs. It means I have to carry more than one lens around and it means I risk dust on the sensor and physical damage to the lens each time I change to a different type. And I want the correct focal length range for my needs.
The one I had in mind is the 10 2000mm digital zoom. It hasnt been manufactured yet and I am sure it will cost the earth and weigh a tonne. But I want it.
I want to be able to take normal portraits one moment then, the next, zoom into that seagull on the cliff face a mile away. I want to able to shoot candids without anyone ever suspecting and I want to get close to the action at sporting events even though I am sitting in the back row of the stadium.
But then I also want to produce fantastic wide angle landscapes and interior shots, and, more often than you think, go for a fisheye shot.
It would be nice if this lens would be light and with a maximum aperture of f2.8 but I am willing to compromise.
Im not asking too much. Am I?
